In this assignment, you will be researching an outsider of your choice by examining and answering four depth questions.

1. Read and view the literature in the 3.3 Media tab and the previous "Time to Read" page.

2. Choose a specific individual or group that would be considered "outsiders" and explore why some people choose to live beyond the "margins" of society, as well as effects being forced into an "outsider" role can have on an individual. Remember that we are all different from others in some way; please present your opinions in a respectful manner.

3. Choose four questions from the list in the 3.3 worksheet to focus your investigation on.

4. Complete the Depth Questions Chart based on what you know now and what you find in your research. Remember to paraphrase all your findings.

5. Plan out a response in the Brainstorming section of the worksheet, to present your gathered information in. You can create a mind map, an outline or any other format helping you organize your ideas.

6. Select and complete a presentation of your research from the following options:

a detailed paragraph
a script (creative, or an interview)
blog entry
slide presentation
infographic
detailed oral commentary

7. View the 3.3 Assessment tab to see how your work will be graded.

Save your polished work as 3_3Investigating_Outsider and submit the mind-map, the documented research, and the final presentation to the 3.3 Investigating the Outsider dropbox.

2. Read more details about presentation forms in which to present the information on your chosen outsider.

Paragraphs: Discuss your idea of an outsider, beginning each paragraph with a topic sentence, a unified discussion of your viewpoint, and a concluding sentence that summarizes your idea of an outsider.

Script: Turn on your inner newscaster, and write a script for a broadcast in which your question and research are presented as a newsworthy item of information or interview. For help building a script, visit a tutorial on script-writing or try a script-writing tool like Plot-Bot.

Slide Presentation: Compose a PowerPoint, Prezi or Google Slide presentation (these are just some digital options) with additional images that share your researched information in a meaningful way.

Infographic: A digital illustration or poster that shares the information you've discovered in a meaningful way. Be sure to enclose written presenter notes to accompany graphics. Check out Easel.ly or S'more to do this assignment option with.

Oral Commentary: Record an organized oral commentary on your chosen question that is completed over the phone with the teacher, recorded on a memory card or USB key, or recorded and sent as an audio file submitted by e-mail, online, or as a URL. An oral commentary is best described as a short detailed speech. You can use Vocaroo to record your speech online, or other tools such as Speakpipe. If you are interested in voice recording or podcasts independently, you might want to check out Spreaker, or Cast.

Consult the teacher for other presentation options or suggestions. If you are curious about how to use a digital tool and would like help getting started, ask your Lead teacher for assistance!
