World Trade Organization
Responsible for establishing and enforcing rules for global trade
In 2015, the WTO has 161 members
Opponents believe the WTO threatens the ability of countries to pursue their national interest
Originated in 1993
Has worked to create one of the largest free-trade zones in the world
Member countries of the EU are integrated, meaning there are no trade barriers between them
People and goods are free to travel across borders with few restrictions
By working together, EU members gained the economic power to play a more influential role in world trade
Countries that signed the EU Agreement, cannot pass national laws that violate this agreement
