Module 3 Summary

Sloping objects let people have some extreme fun. How much adrenalin do you think would be pumping through your body if you were moving 90 km/h at the lip of a ski jump?

In Section 1 you explored slope and ways to describe slopes. You also looked at the special cases related to horizontal and vertical surfaces. You calculated the slope of various objects in different forms, including grade and pitch.

In Section 2 you used proportional reasoning and unit analysis to solve problems. You used tables to set up proportions. You also connected the slopes of graphs to unit rates.

In both Section 1 and Section 2 you considered safety issues.

The Module 3 Project: Luge Track Comparison let you make use of your increasing knowledge of slopes. You compared luge tracks and their slopes. These activities were wrapped around discovering whether Canada’s two winter Olympic tracks meet international safety standards.
