Now, you know more about qualities that make up an entrepreneur.

Read the following definitions of an entrepreneur.

  • a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk (www.dictionary.com)

  • someone who exercises initiative by organizing a venture to take benefit of an opportunity and, as the decision maker, decides what, how, and how much of a good or service will be produced (www.businessdictionary.com)


Your task is to develop a way to show what you know about individuals and groups who were entrepreneurs in early Canada.


  1. Choose two individuals and two groups who had the entrepreneurial spirit.

    Some options to choose from are identified below. You may choose other individuals or groups you have learned about in Unit 1 of this course.

      • James Cook

  2. Choose one of the following ways to present your information.
    • chart
    • PowerPoint
    • poster
    • brochure

    Be sure to include visuals and text in your presentation.

  3. Remember to review the chapters and lessons in Unit 1 to help you research the individuals and groups you have chosen.

  4. You must answer the following questions in your finished product.
      • How did the person or group chosen display entrepreneurship in early Canada?

      • How did the person or group contribute to the development of Canada? Provide one example.

      • Which individual or group was the most entrepreneurial? Why?


Be sure your final product meets the following criteria:

  1. The individuals and groups that you have chosen are from the lists provided or are others from Unit 1.
  2. Answer all the questions outlined in the instructions above (see Point 4).
  3. Include visuals and text in your presentation.
Your presentation will be evaluated according to the rubric.
