Canada West Wants You
In 1896, Minister of the Interior, Clifford Sifton, developed a widespread publicity campaign to attract people to Canada’s West.
This campaign included the distribution of posters and pamphlets as well as the use of foreign and domestic journalists to spread the word about the great Canadian West.The government targeted immigrants mainly from the United States, Great Britain, and Eastern Europe.
- Create a poster to attract immigrants to come and settle in Western Canada.
- Choose one of the target areas (United States, Great Britain, or Eastern Europe) as the focus for your poster.
