Chapter 14 Assessment

Bilingualism in Canada

As you know from your studies in Chapter 14, Canadians live in a bilingual country: English and French.


  1. Your task for this assessment is to write a paragraph in response to the following question:

    As an Albertan, do you think being able to speak both official languages will be important for your future?

    Explain your position.

  2. Provide two reasons to support your position. Include supporting details as evidence.

  3. Your paragraph requires the following.
      • a topic sentence that states your position on the question clearly

      • at least five sentences that identify and explain your reasons

      • a concluding sentence that brings your paragraph to a close

Be sure your final product includes all the following.

  • a clear statement of your position

  • two reasons and supporting details to explain your position

  • a concluding sentence that brings your paragraph to a close
