You will submit this assessment to your teacher who will use it to assess how well you have learned the Big Ideas in Unit 1.
Renaissance Biography
Do you remember the image in Figure 7.1? You were introduced to this image at the beginning of the course. Probably, you recognize several of the faces. You will notice that there is space in the image for one more face.For this assessment, you will choose one person who lived during the Renaissance that you believe represents best the Renaissance worldview.

Choose one person from the Renaissance who you think represents best the worldview of the Renaissance.
- Research that person on the Internet and/or in other sources. Some people to consider are:
- Leonardo da Vinci
- Michelangelo
- Nicolaus Copernicus
- Lorenzo de Medici (Lorenzo the Magnificent)
- Andreas Vesalius
- Isabella D'Este
- Prince Henry the Navigator
- Christopher columbus
- Queen Elizabeth I

Read and study page 84 of the textbook, "Evaluating the Accuracy of Web Sites".
- You will be researching on the Internet for this assessment.
- You must follow the tips suggested on this page to assess critically the websites you find.

Use only websites that you feel pass the "accuracy test".

Keep a record of the URLs of the sites you use because that list
of references must be submitted with your biography of your chosen
person.
Remember that you must provide exact website addresses for sources you have used. For example, www. yahoo.ca or www.google.ca are general search engines; they are not exact website addresses.

You may also find useful information in reference books. Check at your local library. If necessary, you may ask the staff for help in finding exactly what you need.
Remember that you must keep a record of the title, author, and publishing information for a bibliography (the list of web sites and books you used).
Use the document Final Assessment Unit 1 - Bibliography, or create your own bibliography.

For the person you have chosen, be sure to include information about the following:

Describe the person's early years and education.

Identify the person's major accomplishments and contributions to society.

Explain how the person's accomplishments and/or contributions to society reflect the Renaissance/Western worldview.

Include additional interesting information
about the person.

Submit your organizer with your final product.
