Which worldview?

The worldview of the Japanese people changed dramatically from a worldview that supported isolation to one that supported adaptation.

How could these very different worldviews develop in the same culture?

2. Follow the instructions below to complete your chart.
• In the centre column, place beliefs, values, or knowledge of the Japanese people.
  
  Place only one belief, value, or example of knowledge in each box.
  
  Identify the period of Japanese history in which the belief, value, or knowledge was common.
  
  
• Beside the belief, value, or example of knowledge, explain how it contributed to an isolationist worldview or one of adaptation.
  
  If the belief, value, or knowledge supported an isolationist worldview, place it on the left side.
  
  If the belief, value, or knowledge supported an worldview of adaptation, place it on the right side.
  
  Include three examples of how beliefs, values, or knowledge contributed to each worldview.
  
  
• In the bottom box of the chart, identify which worldview – isolation or adaptation – you believe was the best choice for Japan.  Explain a reason for your choice.
