- After having watched videos on farming in the previous lesson and reading pages 150 - 151 of the textbook, think about the various points of view.
A monopoly is when one company controls all the resources. A good example is the Hudson's Bay Company which controlled the beaver trade in Rupert's Land. Monopolies can charge higher prices without worrying about competitors. Large farms can become monopolies and control food prices. Why might one large company controlling food prices or GMO seeds be harmful for Canadians? - Choose a position by deciding on your opinion about the question, "How should people farm on the Interior Plains?"
