Creating Your Own Message Chart

Throughout this unit, in each lesson, you will be learning about different forms of messages and their purpose.


Part of your job in this unit will be to keep track of the different forms of messages you learn about, and to describe the purpose of the message.

You are required to create your own Types of Messages chart from information in different lessons through this unit.

How to Make a Types of Messages Chart

Follow these instructions to make the chart:


  • First, open a new Microsoft Word document.
  • Next, add the title Types of Messages.
  • Then, go to the Insert tab and create a table with three columns across and eight rows down.
  • In your first column, type Form; in the second column, type Message; and in the third column, type Purpose.
  • To add rows, click your cursor inside the last row, which will take you to Table Tools. Click Layout, then on the rows and columns, click Insert Below. A new row will appear at the bottom of your table.
  • When you are finished creating the table, save the document as Types of Messages to your desktop.
  • To add a new type of message, access the chart from your desktop. Don’t forget to save the chart each time you add to it.
