When we first look at a visual, our eyes are often drawn to the focal point, and then the main message most often comes to us. However, we often absorb the message nonchalantly, without analyzing and paying homage to the great skill that is required to make visual messaging "look easy." Visual elements, such as composition, texture, colour, and text, are purposefully and intentionally planned and used by creators who are serious about their crafts. Each detail adds to support the main idea or the main message of the visual. We owe it to the text creator, as well as ourselves, to consider these details thoughtfully. The text creators' messages can help us understand and connect more strongly to our world. For this assignment, you will be analyzing, selecting, further enhancing, and creating deeper connections through visual communication.

Step 3: Review the content in the graphic novel, Sugar Falls, and complete the following:

Select the frame you feel displays a loving experience from Betsy's childhood prior to attending the Residential School.

Select the frame you feel displays a damaging experience from Betsy's childhood while living at the Residential School.

Photocopy and cut out your two chosen frames. (You may want to get a few copies in case of colouring errors.)
