Websites
When you are ready to begin your poem, go to ReadWriteThink website to start creating your acrostic poem.
- Click Get Started.
- Enter your name and your topic word (the name of your favourite game or activity). Click Continue.
- Brainstorm words that have to do with your topic word. They can start with the letters in the word, but they don't have to. At this point, you are just getting ideas about your poem. (If you run out of room on the website, you can always continue brainstorming on a piece of paper or a blank Word document.) When you are finished, click Continue.
- Start creating the lines of your poem. Use the words that you brainstormed to help you. Each line should have something to do with your favourite game or activity: how it makes you feel, what it is about, what it looks and feels like, what it smells like, etc. DO NOT CLICK "FINISH" YET!
- Go to the Acrostic Poem Checklist below to make sure you haven't missed any parts of the poem assignment.
- When you are completely happy with your poem, click Finish. You will not be able to change your poem anymore after you save it.
