1.3 Visual Reflection

You have learned about the format of the Visual Reflection assignment:  how it is marked, and how students can approach the assignment.  Now it is time for you to write a complete visual reflection, based on a new visual (shown on this page).  Don’t worry!  We will walk you through the process again, from start to finish.

Follow each of these steps, in order, to complete your assignment.

Step 2:  Before you begin to write, read Riley and Darcy’s example introductory paragraphs to see how they moved from the planning stage to the writing stage. 

NOTE:  Remember that Riley and Darcy wrote about different images.  You will be writing about the image of the Pakistani child caught in a sandstorm shown on this page.

Step 3:  View the image and think about how you might approach this assignment.  Click on the image to enlarge.

Step 4:  Download this Initial Planning Sheet (in Word, Google doc, or PDF format) and record your thoughts on the visual.  This is the same observation sheet you will see when you write your diploma exam.  It won't be assessed, but it will help you plan your response.

Step 5:  Choose an approach with which you feel most comfortable:  critical, personal, creative, or a combination of these.

Step 6:  Plan your response in point form.  You may use one of the templates to guide you, if you wish.

Step 7:  Write your Visual Reflection response to the image of the Pakistani boy in the sandstorm.

Step 8:  Reread your response. Proofread as necessary.  Remember to edit for word choice and voice. 

Step 9:  Save your visual response assignment in the following way:  Your Full Name 1.3 Visual Reflection.  

Step 10:  Submit your assignment in the space provided.
