Shall We Dance

You must choose one piece of music a minimum of 60 seconds in length. You will choreograph one dance, and then perform and videotape it for submission. You can choose to choreograph the dance yourself or use choreography that has already been created. The video must clearly show you performing the dance. The dance will be graded using the rubric located in the submission form which you can download below.

The dance doesn't need to be a solo.  You may have friends or family members join you in creating and performing a group routine.

Remember that a choreographed dance is simply planned movement to music.  Be creative and have fun.  More of your mark is directed to performance than to technique.  Make up your own moves or include skills involved in an activity you enjoy (examples: gymnastics, figure skating, or zumba).

If you are finding it difficult to choreograph a dance, there are hundreds if not thousands of videos on YouTube. Search specifically for the style you would like to do whether it be hip hop, contemporary, bollywood, ballroom, or other!

The TV show So You Think You Can Dance has many different videos on YouTube that you can draw inspiration from.

The time you spend choreographing, practising, and performing the dance can be used towards the minimum five hours your required for the dance component of your PE 10 program.

Review the rubric located in the self assessment form prior to completing this assignment.  It may help you determine the types of choreography you choose to use.

Students will use the rubric to complete a self-assessment that is worth 25% of the mark. Your teacher's assessment of the dance will make up the remaining 75% of your mark.
