Alternate Assignment 1.1  Image Analysis


This assignment is designed either for extra practice or as an alternative to assignment 1.1.  If you are interested in completing this assignment to replace your marks for assignment 1.1, contact your teacher first for approval.

 Follow each of these steps, in order, to complete your assignment.


Step 1:  View the logo on this page.  Click to enlarge it.  You have had an opportunity to practise analyzing an artistic image.  Now you will practise analyzing a commercial image which is not as extensive as the artistic image.  The following logo was designed by Justine Maguire, founder and creative director of the graphic design company, The Waking Eye, based in Calgary, Alberta.

Step 2:  Download the following "What? So What? No What?" charts for commercial images in Word, Google Doc, or PDF format.

NOTE:  The first chart has been customized for this assignment, so it is slightly different than the chart you completed in assignment 1.1.


Step 3:  Examine the rubric to see how you will be assessed. 


Step 4:  View this video of graphic artist Justine Maguire discussing the process of designing and analyzing her own logo.


Step 5:  While viewing the video and examining the logo, complete your charts thoroughly.

Step 6:  When you have completed your charts save them in the following way:  Your Full Name Alternate Assignment 1.1 Image Analysis.

Step 7:  Submit your assignment on this page.
