1.1 Image Analysis

Now it’s your turn to practise applying the “What?  So What?  Now What?” strategy to an artistic image.  The following painting, entitled “Seven Grandfather Teachings,” is by one of Canada’s premiere First Nation’s artists, Aaron Paquette.  Click on the image to enlarge it.

Then follow each of these steps, in order, to complete your assignment.

Step 1:  Before you begin, examine the rubric to see how your assignment will be assessed.

Step 3:  Download a copy of the "What? So What? Now What? charts in either Word, Google doc or PDF format. DO NOT BEGIN COMPLETING THE CHART until you have watched the video AND studied the tutorial in the next step below.  

Step 4:  View this video of the artist Aaron Paquette analyzing his own painting, and review the tutorial Unlocking the Mysteries of Visual Images.

Step 5:  Use the video of the painter and the "Unlocking the Mysteries" tutorial to complete the “What?  So What?  Now What? charts to analyze the painting, “Seven Grandfather Teachings.”

Step 6:  When finished, save your assignment in the following way:  Your Full Name 1.1 Image Analysis.

Step 7:  Submit your assignment in the space provided.
