Writing an Opinion Article

Now you will write the essay that you planned in the previous lesson. Read Like a Writer . You will submit this writing to your teacher for feedback. This feedback will be based on the Short Opinion Essay rubric.
There will be a minimum of three paragraphs in your opinion essay. You will need three main reasons to support your opinion. Refer to your planning chart in Assignment 4-4. Download Assignment 4-5 below.

Save
How to save a file:
- Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
- Name your Assignment 4-5 file in this format: jsmithla6_4-5opinionessay and save the file to your Documents folder.
After you have completed the draft copy of your opinion article, go to the next steps of this activity for Feedback and Revision.
Feedback
When you have finished your draft copy of your Opinion Article, do the following:
- Choose someone to share your opinion piece with.
- Ask that person to read your draft copy and answer the questions outlined in Feedback Edit Essay.

Save
How to save a file:
- Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
- Name your Feedback Edit Essay file in this format: jsmithla6_4-5-feedbackeditessay and save the file to your Documents folder.
Revision
When the writing is returned to you, do the following:

Review the answers to the feedback questions, then fill in the Revision Plan.

Decide what to change, add, remove, or rearrange.
- Rewrite as necessary.

- When you are finished revising your Opinion Essay, have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
- Name the file in this format: jsmithla6_4-5-opinion-essay and save your file to your Documents folder.
- Your teacher will give you feedback to help you improve your writing, using the Opinion Article Rubric. This is NOT for marks
Summative Assessment
Throughout the unit, you learned and practiced new concepts and presentation formats. Now itβs time to demonstrate or βsum upβ your understanding of that information by submitting this assignment for a mark.
- Submit your Assignment 4-5 worksheet to your teacher for marking.
- Click Add Submission to upload your document.
