    Texts Required For This Course:

    • the textbook Between the Lines 12 (Nelson Thomson Learning, 2002)
    • the modern play Bethune (abridged edition, 2003) by Rod Langley
    • a novel from the list provided in Module 4 - Farenheit 451, Fallen Angels, Letters from Wingfield Farm, Medicine River, The Midwich Cuckoos, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, The Suspect
    • access to one of the feature films listed in Module 4

        

    Note: You will be asked from time to time to submit journal entries or portfolio items for evaluation; accordingly, you might find it advantageous to complete such work electronically.

     

    A copy of the English Language Arts Student Handbook is recommended, but not required (digital copy is provided, but print is available).

    If you are an Outreach student (and don't attend any other schools) this module should take you one week. Aim to complete one assignment a day. 

    If you are a Concurrent student (you attend a high school as well as take online classes) this module should take you two weeks. Aim to finish one assignment every two or three days.

    This is a halfway check in, to separate the first and second half of the course, and to give you a target to strive for when planning your course timelines. 

    The following modules contain your regular assignments, but they also contain essay exams, taken from diploma exams, both to test your knowledge and give you practice for the coming diploma exam. Each test must be taken at a school, and be scheduled and observed. If you have any questions, please let me know!

    This module contains 5 assignments and a timed essay exam. The exam must be written at either the student's school or an Outreach school and must be supervised. It is a one question timed essay exam, and is a Response to Visual Communication. It is taken from an English 30-2 diploma exam. The exam requires a password, and the password must be requested 24 hours before the student writes the exam. For example, if you want to write the exam Wednesday at 11:00 am, you must ask me by 11:00 am on Tuesday. If you want to write it on a Monday, you must ask me on Friday. 

    Not available unless: The activity Halfway Check In with my teacher is marked complete

    Module Six 

    This module contains assignments and a timed essay exam. The exam must be written at either the student's school or an Outreach school and must be supervised. It is a one question timed essay exam, and is a Literary Exploration. It is taken from an English 30-2 diploma exam. The exam requires a password, and the password must be requested 24 hours before the student writes the exam. For example, if you want to write the exam Wednesday at 11:00 am, you must ask me by 11:00 am on Tuesday. If you want to write it on a Monday, you must ask me on Friday. 

    Not available unless: The activity Halfway Check In with my teacher is marked complete

    This module contains assignments and a timed essay exam. The exam must be written at either the student's school or an Outreach school and must be supervised. It is a one question timed essay exam, and is a Persuasive Writing In Context. It is taken from an English 30-2 diploma exam. The exam requires a password, and the password must be requested 24 hours before the student writes the exam. For example, if you want to write the exam Wednesday at 11:00 am, you must ask me by 11:00 am on Tuesday. If you want to write it on a Monday, you must ask me on Friday.
