ELA2104-ABED: 5.3 Tracing Understanding

Assignment Instructions

At this point in the course, you should have read at least half your chosen graphic novel. You will analyze a set of frames from your chosen graphic novel to understand key visual elements and the theme.

1. Choose one frame selection from the list in the "Frame Choices" tab. This will act as your annotation page that you will use for your analysis for this assignment.

2. Analyze and explain the significance of various elements in the frame(s) by making clear notes over and around the frames.

4. Complete a " What? So What? Now What?" chart for close reading. This chart is located in the 'worksheet' tab and will be submitted for assessment.

5. Discuss your understanding of theme in a paragraph in the "Now What?" section of your chart.

6. View the 'Assessment' tab to see how your work will be assessed.

*To work with these frames for the purpose of annotating them for submission you will need to do the following:

In the word processor program you choose, you should be able to find floating text boxes that will move all over your page to where you want them.

When you place the text box call-outs on your page, you can arrange their sizes to accommodate your text, as well as arrange the pointer stems to point at the places in the image you wish to draw attention to (some programs may require you to add a separate line to connect your text box to a certain part of the image).

Be mindful that your text is visible in the call-outs by ensuring the background colour of the call-out is not too dark behind the text.
